Topic 1: Ingredients for Successful Communicative Activities
Abstract: Teachers are increasingly aware of the need to give students opportunities to improve their fluency and raise the confidence in using English. This means going beyond activities to practice language forms to communicative activities which are more focused on content and task outcome. However, many teachers say that these activities often do not work very well in practice and that they lose control of their class. The aim of this workshop is to discuss common problems with speaking activities and to suggest ways to provide the support needed to ensure successful communicative tasks.

Topic 2: Helping Students Become Independent Learners
Abstract:
What kind of activities do you normally use? Are they almost the same? Why did you plan them? Becoming aware of how to organize, compare, classify, infer, and analyze data as well as pieces of information is an important strategy we should help our students develop so that they can become more independent. As a result, we as teachers are able to help them by structuring and preparing appropriate activities for these thinking processes.
